Keetty. Who owns one, or thirty, of them?

After watching an episode of Animal Cops I think I finally understand why some cat owners keep collecting more and more of them. Something about the constant contact with ammonia damages the brain of the owner and thats all they seem to keep doing. Bring home more cats. You ever notice that these cat herder types just aren't, you know- all there? I always wondered if it happend before collecting cats. Maybe cat owners can enlighten me on this subject.

I watch that show too! :D

I dunno. I know some people just can't seem to get them fixed because they cost money, or they just seem to think they MIGHT profit from owning lots of them.

Personally, I got ALL my females spayed and left my males alone. No more babies. It was too hard to keep finding homes for the cute buggers. DX

But hey, who can blame us? They are cute....too cute.....

I can't watch those Animal Cop shows, they just make me too sad. I hate seeing all those poor animals in the state people leave them in. :( It's sad to know that people are capable of being so cruel.

I have 8 cats. This is not by design.

I wanted 4 cats (and this is including my mom's 17 year old cat). I had two kittens, and one old (15) cat of my own when I moved in with my mom.

The kittens eventually (by design) bred and had for adorable kitties.

I tried giving 3 of them away. Honestly. I had photos of them from the *day they were born* up to a number of months later. Everyone who had said when my cat was pregnant, "oh yeah I think my sister wants a cat!" or "my one cat is pretty sickly, I may need a kitten soon.".... Not one of them came up to bat.

They were all, "oh crap, my sister bought a cat yesterday." and "well the other cat is really neurotic and wouldn't handle a kitten"...

So by this time, the new kittens are 4 months old and very used to me and my house. The older cat was put down shortly before this, by the way.

The kittens were born under my bed, late late at night... they (3 years later) still pretty much all sleep in my room with me. I'm never in need of warmth, let me tell ya.

Then my mom saw this other cat outside, and decided (even though he clearly belonged to someone else) oh he must be thirsty, and put down water for him. Next day, of course, food.

Three days later (and I told her this would happen) he's sleeping with me, in my bed.

.... So now we have a house full of cats. They don't seem to mind one another, the white cat Alby is still half-outdoors, and comes in when he feels like it. My mom's cat is growing pretty slender and feeble, but she's probably got a while left in her, and 17 is a good long time for a cat. but...

Really. 8 cats was not my intention. I couldn't live without them now, if I'd been able to get rid of them when they were kittens it would have been fine. But then I'd never have known Squeek would shake hands and play fetch, and I'd probably have been stuck with the dumbest cat in the bunch... she's cute but my god this cat's dumber than a box of bricks.

My mom wanted to keep the other neighbors cat, when she got out and got lost. I'm like, "HELL no". Little 1lb cat was so pushy and territorial that she was chasing the 17lbers out there. I'm very glad the neighbors came and took her back (after a freaking WEEK). No more cats right now. No way. :)

I know we almost ended up with that cat hurding type thing... at most we had 12 cats, 4 fully grown 8 kittens. For us it was hard as hell to take the kittens to the ASPCA and we ended giving away one of the adult cats to a friend. Its the idea of knowing that if they aren't adopted after a certain amount of time they end up being put down, but ended up sucking it up and realising that since they're kittens they'll have the best chances of being adopted.

For some it starts as 2 and then one gets knocked up and it becomes 3 to 8 and then the cycle repeats itself until there's 40 to 60 cats. Obviously the exposure to insane amounts of amonia don't help in the least bit.

I'm sure if we had the space and money to get all of our female cats taken care of we would have kept them, the males we usually keep as indoor outdoor cats (even after they're neutered they're a pain in the ass to deal with in compairison to females).

I own six cats right now. Used to own nine, but three of them died (two by cars, one by rabies.) I just love cats. I really do. And basically, the main reason my family owns so many cats is because we pick them up and save them. Same with our dogs.

I can't watch those animal rescue shows: they're too depressing. People are just so cruel and careless.

My family has 6 indoor cats, but fortunately I don't think our house smells bad. <_<; We just love cats and all of ours are strays or came from shelters (although we adopted my grandfather's cat after he died a few years ago). I think cat collectors mean well, but just get carried away and can't keep up with all those animals.

Huaaahhh.... don't have a lot of cats, but have a bad habit of 'replacing' pets... >_>;

Like... we had a brother and sister cat-pair years ago, then the brother bit the dust at age 10. 2-3 years ago, while working at an ice cream shop, my co-worker had a kitten she found under the car's radiator. Long story short, I took the kitten into our home, and eventually kept her. Unfortunetly, I didn't think she would be such a two-faced, Tortie demon that terrorizes our 13 year-old cat. ><;
Then..we have a 'stray' alley cat who comes to our door, and greets us... Though, he is a nice cat, but he technically has his own 'owners,' who we know down the street..

....I think cats have these super powers that entice people to keep them or something...
